Hope and Politics

1 Samuel 12:20 “Do not be afraid,’ Samuel replied… ‘do not turn away from the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.’”

These are the words of the prophet Samuel after he told the people that asking for a king to rule them was evil. They were afraid that God would punish them. But Samuel set the record straight; yes asking for a king was evil, and God would give them a king to rule over them, but if they would not look to the king for their salvation but to God, they would be OK.

This past week we went to the polls and choose a new president. Some people were very happy with the outcome, others disappointed and some downright depressed. No matter how you voted, God had His hand in it. We are not to put our faith in our government, our president, the congress or senate. God is clear; our faith, our hope is to be in Him alone. The government will come and go; presidents, congress, and the senate all will pass away, but He is eternal, we are to put our faith and hope in God who gave us His Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior. It doesn't matter how you voted, as long as your hope is in Jesus and not a president!
